Doppelgänger

I was quietly leaving

an AA meeting

in a church annex

in London

this is how

I best enjoy

groups

In another country

sitting in the back

silently

watching

listening

and then

leaving fast

Plenty enough

of a human fix

for me

A woman stopped me

she was

visibly shaken

for

she told me

I was an

absolute ringer

for her sister

who

had been dead

for many years

She asked if

she might hug me

I am

pretty freaky

about being touched

especially by strangers

but The Force

pushed me forward

a step and then another

right into her arms

which she wrapped around me

like name brand

cling wrap

over some

bowl of leftovers

Tight

Squeezy

I knew

in that moment

for that moment

I was no longer

Me

I was

the dead sister

come to life

for an instant

She held on

for some time

I let her

When she released me

I saw she was crying

So was I
