Hi Y’all,
I just now got word that my KickStarter has gone live. I hope you’ll pre-order a copy of my new book: Grok This, Bitch. It’s a love letter to Old Austin and also to Really Old Austin. It’s a story within a story. It’s comedy, tragedy, history and philosophy. It is chock full of music. I really poured my heart into it.
As I mentioned in last week’s installment, I am only planning to send out three blasts about this campaign: This one, one mid-campaign, and one at the end. My goal is to sell 200 print copies and 300 e-copies.
Here’s a link to the KickStarter.
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/spikegillespie/grok-this-bitch
If you pop over there you’ll find a little video I did with more information about the book and a detailed FAQ section.
I’m hoping to start fulfilling orders the last week of August. Thank you so much for your support. And if you know anyone who might dig a copy, please let them know they can pre-order, too.
Love,
Uncle Spik

Super excited for this. I loved your series Austin Rent Sucks from way back in the day...I also realized that you and I essentially lived in the same(ish) neighborhoods and never met until my (ex)stepdaughter met you in 2002/3 at a creative writing workshop and you were her mentor. (She's a nurse now, but I still have hope that she'll keep writing!)
Before I sold my S Austin house in fall of 22 (thank you divorce), I went around to my old abodes and took photos of what the properties look like now, although I didn't do an MLS search to see what they were renting/sold for. Most of them are still around, but a couple have been demolished/redeveloped since. Any chance you might revisit that topic or pen an addendum to it all these years later?
Anywoo, glad to see that this is almost funded so soon out of the gate! Plus, if you ever need help on the ranch, this midwest farm girl may want to move back that direction eventually and would be a happy camper living in one of yours...haha...
