Even though, selfishly, I'd love it if you were here, I'm glad you've settled into your home. It seems to suit you. Now to figure out how to visit.

I wish I lived close enough to attend. Some day, maybe!

I’m not sure how a video of me makes you sad but you can unsubscribe super easily! No need to be sad. It’s not like I came to your house and ate all the snacks.

Good Morning Melissa,

I came to substack to connect with people who aren’t going to perpetually criticize me. On Facebook, which I left, things got really hairy, I had death threats, etc. And I was perpetually policed by people who turned me in because they disagreed with something I said. As I understand substack, that is less of an issue here. Like, maybe something bordering on free speech.

I was offered a chance to participate in Substack’s beta video release. I jumped at the chance. I wish I could “just” be a writer, and not feel a need to make videos and blogs, etc. I am a writer first and foremost. On the other hand, to get with the times, it seems having more texture to one’s platform is helpful. Plus, as an amateur photographer and videographer, it’s a chance for me to stretch creativity in directions that are often in stretched. In short, my goal is to communicate with people who wish to communicate not so they might censor, shape and edit me. But so that we can have legit discussions like in the old days. Also, I want a place where I can be creative knowing that even when people don’t like what I am presenting, at least I won’t be bashed. I’m always down for a fair debate. I’m totally over nitpicky criticism.

You aren’t required to watch the video which, for the record, was related to writing. I am offering classes for the first time since lockdown. I have forty animals, most rescues, that need to be fed. I have to produce an income. So while you may be sad that i veered from the holiness of the written word, I have to be a realist dude. I got bills to pay. And I can’t enroll people unless I let them know the classes exist.

That was very nice of you to be an early subscriber. Thank you for believing in me. What’s sad to me is your reaction. I’ll send you your money back immediately. No problem. You can email me at spikegillespie@gmail.com and let me know how you wish to receive your funds.
