oh Spike. I sure loved hearing you and Bob laugh. Brought a little tear to my eye. Man. What a lucky time for you both.

Those curving paths follow a tradition well understood in landscape architecture: concealing and revealing. It's a way of making sure that you are always a little bit surprised (and hopefully delighted) by what comes next. It's one of my favorite things.

I love Charlie! He helped me so much with my plumbing and is just such a mench. Another stroke of luck to have such a stand up dude in the neighborhood.

You always bring me back to Garfield, for better or worse. Thank you for that!!

I VERY often think about your Garfield days and how hard you worked (and how hard you still work). I continue to draw inspiration from you on the regular. Thank you for that. I do love this curving road thing—I’m cool with being a little bit surprised. Just no big surprises please!

Spike, what a beautiful surprise to read this as I start my day (a bit later than planned). I meant to go to High Gate in 1993 but never made it. I took off alone on this first overseas journey. My first stop was Hampstead Heath. I guess I preferred getting lost in the endless heath and enjoying the Syrian and crepe food trucks. Now I feel like I’ve been to High Gate thanks to your vivid description.

Like the curving paths at High Gate, your writing veers the reader into hidden treasures of the human experience. 😌💝🥹

Thanks Linda. The endless heath + food trucks sounds like an excellent alternative. So great seeing you Saturday. ❤️
