Oh, god, I have a thousand! Last year, something happened where I couldn't put two words together from a written book, but audio books sank in effortlessly. I've even developed favorite readers (as well as a few whose reading makes me go cross-eyed.) If you're into fiction, I loved hearing Alka Joshi's Jaipur Trilogy, read by the velvet-voiced Sneeha Mathan are divine. Also enjoyed listening to Young Mungo, Martyr!, the first installment of Cher's memoir, Maggie O'Farrell's Hamnet and The Marriage Portrait, Adam McKay's This is Going to Hurt (which, as an afficianado of the healthcare system, you'll appreciate this heartwrending, hilarious takedown of the NHS), and many more. I also recommend signing up for Chirp, if you haven't, which is like Bookbub for audio books. Not quite as cheap, but occasionally I find treasures there, things I might never have stumbled upon otherwise.

Oh yes!! This topic is worthy of its own post. The narrators! What a difference they make one way or another. I haven’t encountered too many whose voices just didn’t work for me, so that’s good. I have encountered so many amazing narrators and I always pay attention to this—how their skill and performance can bring another added layer of fabulous to a book. Then there are the books narrated by the authors, and I love these too, love hearing the actual voice. Thanks for these great suggestions and for recommending Chirp. I’d not heard of that before.

Ooh I love book recommendations, thank you. I second your recommendation of memoirs by Kathy Valentine and Neko Case. I'm excited to check out A Change of Habit and Cave in the Snow.

My warped brain is now imagining a book called Nick Cave in the Snow. Hahaha. Though I continue to have the hardest time reading print books, the one recent exception to that was The Wisdom of Sheep. Thanks again for that excellent recommendation.

I've tried audio books but just prefer reading. I fell down the Fourth Wing rabbit hole and completely devoured the 3 books available. Rebecca Yarros has weaved an incredibly tight universe of characters in these books. The relationships - the friendships and the lovers - are deep and well explored. I actually care about them. The dragons are just richly drawn in my mind, each with their own personality and quirks. Watching Andarna grow from fledgling to young dragon has been fascinating, funny and touching as she tries to discover who she is.

You know what I've been reading! I have not been able to adapt to audiobooks, I always forget that those and podcasts even exist, even though I know from previous experience that they make long drives and onerous tasks much easier. Maybe I need to add it to my reminder list, along with taking meds and paying bills.

Thanks Spike! I have a very codependent relationship w Libby, in that she must talk to me every day or I’m not quite right. I love being read to as well, and weaving or knitting with only Libby doing the talking is about perfect. I have reached my holds limit…. Like always ….. but have some of these suggestions tagged for later.

Denise! So great to hear from you. I literally think of you every day since your woven masterpieces are in heavy rotation in my kitchen. Thanks for those and for being a constant reassuring presence in these trying ties. Hooray for Libby!
